It takes a lot to build a trail: funding, access, energy, community support, and...engineering; something most of us don’t think about when it comes to trail use and development. But engineering is a critical part of trail development and construction and is a specialty of Bike Walk Nebraska’s newest business member, Schemmer. Schemmer is a full-service architecture, engineering, and construction field services consultant founded in 1959. One of their specialties is trail design with an emphasis on safety, longevity, and minimal long-term maintenance. Schemmer’s services include everything from master plans to funding applications to route studies and design. They have been involved in projects in towns big and small in Nebraska from the Antelope Creek Trail and MoPac Trail Bridge in Lincoln to the Elkhorn River Trail in Norfolk and the Hannibal Park Trail in Beatrice. Schemmer has also been involved in trail work in South Dakota, including the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trails in Dakota Dunes.
We are so glad to have Schemmer as part of the Bike Walk Nebraska family. So next time you’re on a trail, tip your hat (or helmet!) to all that went into making your experience a good one - especially those engineering services!
Onward and Upward,
Mona
